GENERATIVE AI IN EDUCATION
What is Generative Artificial intelligence?
- It is a chat that responds and acts as a human with automatic intelligent responses. This type of AI is available everywhere and can be used in multiple ways.

MAIN POINTS/QUESTIONS

  •  Is the use of generative AI in education good or bad?
  •  Should it be banned for education purposes like assignments or used in the classroom to promote learning?
  • Is Generative AI a reliable source for research?
  • Are things like grammarly okay to use?
  • Should using generative AI for help on brainstorming for a paper be plagiarizing?
  • Does generative AI prevent learning?
  • Should teachers in education be more trained in technology in order to recognize generative AI or to teach proper use?
  • Is there a proper way to use generative AI in education?

 Some ideas for presentation

Thoughts
  • You might wonder teachers use technology in the classroom every day with Kahoot, Quizlet, Google Classroom, Blackboard, etc. What could be the problem with this technology? Well for one it is new and we really as educators do not have that much information on it. From above you can see it lacks creativity and the ability to learn. But on the positives it promotes brainstorming and in a way makes our lives easier. The only problem is the misinformation and plagiarism of work.I have learned after research that AI does multiple languages which I think is a huge positive especially for non-English speakers. Another new thing for me is I found out it gets to know each student and helps them individually. This is huge especially for teachers who have to deal with so much on the daily to have some help. I feel like Generative AI can be beneficial in the classroom if used properly. They should have certain settings and certain ways to prevent plagiarism. I also think every teacher should stay up to date and always check for generative AI when students submit work. This would help prevent academic misconduct. If used for positive uses I believe generative AI can benefit schools, students, and teachers like never before!
Part II Update

Policy

Students when using Generative AI must only do it when researching and brainstorming. This in a classroom should not be used in writing students papers or generating answers word for word with the students. I think by having a policy like this it will help avoid plagiarism and support learning within the classroom.

 Brainstorming Policy
plagiarism, technology provided to educators to detect plagiarism, important use for generative Ai to be in the lesson or students using it, students being supervised, lessons provided about how generative Ai is accurately

Steps for Generating my Policy

Steps making mine I will determine what type of ways I want to incorporate generated AI in my classroom.I will then determine my classroom goals with technology as I prepare the policies.I will then draft and come up with what I want the policy to say. I will then edit and pick out which ones I feel are most important. Finally if I was in a classroom I would inform my students on what I expect from them and what the policies were.

Reflection

Based after this it has really made me think deeper into education and preparing a policy for this type of technology in the classroom. It really made me consider different rules and how important it is to have a type of system. Without a system having generative ai in the classroom could have a lot of problems that could arrive. After doing more research I have found lots of positive ways to have a controlled learning environment while using this tool positively.

Part III Update

Audience- Third Grade Classroom

Goal- The goal of my assignment will be to teach third graders how to use generative AI tool of Chat GPT for brainstorming.

Steps In Assignment:

Will be getting students to create a profile on Chat GPT. During this time I will explain the right time to use chat gpt and when it is not okay. I will then give each student a topic and such as "World War II". I will get students to first talk about there topic and what they already know about it and to write that down. After they have talked about this I will get the students to type in to Chat GPT questions about there topic. Next I will get them to only chose reliable information and to write it down what they find. Finally I will get students to create a chart on what they already knew, what they found from Chat GPT, and what they learned overall from this assignment on their topic and using Chat GPT.

The Example Worksheet Includes

Chat GPT Brainstorming Activity

Your group already knows this about the topic:

Your group used Chat GPT and Learned this about your topic:

Your group Learned about the topic and the use of Chat GPT:

The lesson/ what I observe:

The point of this activity will be to teach students how to properly use Generative AI and to introduce them to new technologies within a classroom. By doing this worksheets students will learn how to successfully find reliable resources while searching the web. The worksheet will help students reflect on the activity and me as a teacher understand what the students have learned 😀
